Dear RMA Community,
On April 17, Governor Greg Abbott announced that schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This follows guidance by President Trump indicating schools should remain closed in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The last day of school for each campus will remain as scheduled on our district calendars.
Although this is not the outcome we wanted to see, our focus must continue to be on keeping our students and families safe during this critical time.
Remote instruction will continue through the end of the school year and we will work closely with the Texas Education Agency. We have implemented systems and structures to deliver instruction online and through packets for the time being, and while we recognize this system is not perfect, we believe it will allow us to successfully complete the 2019-2020 school year. We will diligently focus on planning for the reopening of school in August and re-strategizing to make up for any lost learning in the current year to ensure that our students remain on track academically.
We are also committed to ensuring students have access to nutritious meals during the week. We will continue to post information on our website identifying locations where students can receive free lunches. This will remain updated until the last scheduled day for school to be in session.
We will have a decision regarding graduations soon. Ideally, we will be able to have graduation in person later in the summer; however, we are also discussing the possibility of virtual graduation ceremonies. Ultimately, any decision we make will be one that honors and celebrates our graduates.
This has been an unprecedented and challenging time for all of us. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have dealt with this unprecedented situation. We look forward to the day that we are able to welcome our students and staff back into our buildings.
